Concurso del Parque de la Ciudadanía in the site of the National Stadium is one of the most emblematic and prominent urban spaces in the city of Santiago de Chile.
Despite its current status of enclosed sport facility, for more than seven decades the National Stadium has been one of Santiago’s most active urban spaces, with the highest number of civic, cultural and mass events. Its size of 63.5 hectares, its privileged urban location and the civic significance of its main buildings, impose the challenge of transforming this place into a public open space, bringing a new urban park to the city of Santiago.
The main goal of the competition is to generate a park open to the people, integrated with its surrounding lower income neighborhoods and capable of integrating the sports venues located within the site. The competition also seeks looks for the exploration of new programmatic opportunities in order to reinforce the status of urban public space oriented to the sports and recreation.
