International Ideas Competition
The BIA Urban Regeneration Forum is announcing the first edition of the International Ideas Competition for students of architecture and young architects, and designed to promote the urban regeneration and transformation of the consolidated city.
The competition falls within the scope of the forum’s Topics. It is an open competition without any registration fee and is anonymous.
The aim of this International Ideas Competition is to focus on intervention in an area that constitutes a strategic opportunity in the urban regeneration of an enclave where various Bilbao neighbourhoods converge: the “Cantalojas Railway Cutting”.
The area of intervention is mostly occupied by the railway lines. The existence of the railway lines and the configuration of the cutting they run through has posed, historically, a physical barrier that determines the development of the neighbourhoods that define its boundaries, the layout and orientation of the buildings, the mobility of the inhabitants, the internal activity of each area and the internal and external relationships among citizens.
The BIA Urban Regeneration Forum is seeking proposals that will have a revitalising potential, and will be using urban regeneration as a driving force in social regeneration: flows and mobility, activities, spaces for meeting and interrelationships, etc. to revive the identity of the locality. It is a question of enhancing the existing items and points of interest, historical items in the zone linked to mining and the railway, without prejudice to the possibility of creating new milestones and points of interest, all without losing sight of the optimisation of the mobility of the environment and its functionality.
