Competition: “a world you like”
The World You Like Challenge wants creative and innovative minds from across the EU to put their low-carbon initiatives to the test and inspire others to follow suit.
“The World You Like Challenge is a great opportunity to move beyond mere talking about climate change. By submitting your project, you show that building a world we like with a climate we like is feasible and affordable. And it won’t make our lives dull and grey,” said Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner for Climate Action.
Who can participate?
However big or small, any project that is helping to lower or avoid CO2 emissions and improve people’s quality of life can be submitted. We are looking for the most original and pioneering low-carbon initiatives. Entries are welcome from individuals, entrepreneurs, businesses, public and private organisations – in fact, from anyone with good ideas!
What are the project criteria?
We are looking forward to receiving entries about original and innovative projects with a concrete and tangible output. What matters is that the project contributes to avoiding, reducing or dealing with carbon emissions – on a technical or behavioural level. Your project should illustrate good practice and provide a role model for other people or organisations. If it has an impact on people’s everyday life, even better – that is what we are looking for! You can submit your project in one of the following five categories:
Building & living
Shopping & eating
Re-use & recycling
Travel & transport
Innovative production
Above all, we are looking for inspirational projects that show others how a world we like, with a climate we like, can be achieved and that can motivate people to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle.
Where and when can projects be submitted and what happens thereafter?
The Challenge starts on 11 February 2013 and will be open for submissions until 14 June 2013. You can submit your project via our online form and showcase it using text, photos or videos on our website. After a short period of validation, your project will be posted online and become part of the virtual “world you like” on the campaign website. You will receive an automatic email confirmation once your project is published. An online map will show the location of all projects submitted. Moreover, each project will be showcased on an individual page to introduce it to the public.
How can I win and what’s in for me?
After the submission phase, visitors to the campaign website will be able to vote for the most creative and inspiring initiative to create a world we like.
From the ten most popular projects, a jury will select three winners. These will be invited to an award ceremony in Copenhagen in autumn. For this ceremony, the World You Like Challenge has joined forces with campaign partner Sustainia – an alliance of international organisations and companies that every year awards sustainable solutions from across the world.
The campaign has a special focus on five countries – Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Portugal. In these countries we will also select five winners who will see their projects featured in a national billboard campaign in autumn 2013.
Once your project is online, spread the word and rally votes from your networks! They could help you become one of the 8 winners. So don’t forget to connect with us on Facebook and Twitter.
