To Play
Play is deeply rooted in humans and in our society. Play brings together all ages and social and cultural groups within the population. Children playfully learn the boundaries of their motor skills while having fun, and can practice their social skills. Although the goal and the importance of play has hardly changed over the years, the way we deal with this phenomenon certainly has. Once a spontaneous activity, playing has become subject to safety, design and regulations, especially in urban areas. On top of that, the notion of play has become entangled in conceptions about public space and is seen today as an instrument of urban renewal.
