Article 03, paisea 017. Urban parks, more than just a green space | Joan Domènec Ros
Let’s imagine for a moment one of those word association games, where we have to say the first thing that comes into our heads on hearing a series of words that or more or less related. “What do you say if I say table?”: “Chair” (or “desk” or “tablecloth”); “And sky?”: “Clouds” (or “heaven”, or “stars”), etc. What would we say, though, if the word that we have to make connections to others with were park, or urban park (or garden)? We might expect some of these possible answers: “Trees”, “green”, “kids”, “flowers”, “birds”, “green lung”, “senior citizens”, “pond”, “pétanque”, or others like these. All of them would describe, with varying degrees of accuracy, what the average member of the public understands an urban park to be, mainly based on what he or she sees in the city, or how he or she uses them.
