Throughout its history, Western civilisation has had a special reationship with the notions of light and darkness. Since the times of ancient myths, the idea that its opposite, darkness, is bad, has made its way into everything: religion, philosophy, morality, the theory of knowledge, science and even colloquial language are all clear examples of this association.
